(1 Peter 3:1-16)
If you could miraculously hear what everyone says about you while they are saying it, would you?
Why is it so common for us to find negative things in other people?
Have you ever been treated differently than other people because of your faith? What happened?
Shayne said that the answer (or defense) of verse 15 is laid upon a foundation of the Christ-like behaviors described in chapters 2 and 3. What happens if our talk doesn’t have this foundation?
Can people be talked into believing? Explain our answer.
How can we, without being weird, show people that we are Christians? List some ways that we can let our flag fly.
Read 1 Peter 3:10-16. What does Peter have in mind when he speaks of “your good behavior in Christ” (NIV)?
Read 1 Peter 2:19-23. Have you ever followed Christ’s example in verse 23? What was the outcome? Are you currently in a situation in which you could follow his example?
Read 1 Peter 3:1-7. What, if anything does this have to do with the “good-in-Christ behavior”? Do you think a healthy marriage can open doors to talk about your faith? Can it open doors even for unmarried people?
What would it mean for a Christian wife to submit to her husband? What would it not mean?
List attitudes and actions of a considerate and respectful husband.
Read verse 8. How important is this “good-in-Christ behavior” (fearlessness) to our witness?
What is the answer to Peter’s question in verse 13?
Read verse 14: What kind of things do the people we know fear? Do we also fear these things?
Read verse 15: How do we set apart Christ as Lord in our hearts?
