(Ephesians 2:1-7)

Read Ephesians 2:1-7.

How does this passage connect to the one immediately preceding it?

In verses 1 and 3, Paul distinguishes between “you” (v. 1) and “us”

(v. 3). Who comprises these different groups?

How can Paul say, “You were dead in your transgressions and sins in which you lived…” So, were they dead or did they live? Explain.

Verse 2: What does it mean to “follow the ways of this world” (lit. “you walked according to the age of this world)?

What does it mean (v.3) that “we” were “gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts”? Isn’t that just natural? Why is it a problem?

What is “the kingdom of the air” and who is its ruler (v. 2)?

In what ways is this “spirit” now at work in those who are disobedient (unbelieving, unpersuaded)?

What does Paul mean in verse 3 when he says that we were objects of wrath? Why were we objects of wrath?

How can we be object of wrath when God love us so much (v. 5)?

What does it mean (v. 5) to be made alive with Christ? What does in mean (v.5) to be dead in transgressions?

In what sense are we seated with Christ in the heavenly places (v. 6)?

The reason God did what he did for us (verse 6) is stated in verse 7. How does understanding God’s reason affect your thinking about him? About yourself?

How should this passage impact our thinking? Is there any action we should take in response to this passage?
